# Portals

> Create portals from managed views so signed-in users see a branded top bar and a menu filtered by access policy.

## Overview

A portal is a branded entry point built from [managed views](/workflows/managed-views.md). You set one managed view as the portal homepage and add views from any app as menu items. Users who sign in with their Elementum credentials see only the portal's branded top bar and menu, and each menu item is filtered by the access policy of its view.

Organization Administrators create and manage portals from the **Portals** page in **Organization Settings**.

## Prerequisites

* **Organization Administrator** access.
* At least one managed view to use as the portal homepage. See [Managed Views](/workflows/managed-views.md).

## Create a portal

1. Open **Organization Settings** → **Gateways** → **Portals**.
2. Create a new portal.
3. Enter a **name** and **description**, and choose an **icon**.
4. Set the **URL slug** that forms the portal's shareable URL.
5. Save the portal.

## Build the portal from managed views

1. Open the portal you created.
2. Set a managed view as the portal **homepage**.
3. Add managed views from any app as **menu items**.
4. Save your changes.

## What users see

* Users sign in with their Elementum credentials and open the portal through its shareable URL.
* Users see only the portal's branded top bar and menu, not the rest of the Elementum navigation.
* Each menu item is filtered by the access policy of its managed view. A user sees an item only when their access policy for that view allows it.

> [!NOTE]
>
> Portals use the access policies already defined on each managed view. To change who can see a menu item, update the access policy on that view. See [Share Access](/workflows/managed-views.md#share-access).
