QR code scanning is available on record pages where an admin has configured fields to accept QR data input. Look for the Scan QR Code button next to supported fields.
Prerequisites
Before using QR code scanning:- Your device must have a camera
- The app must have camera permission enabled
- The record page must have fields configured for QR input
To scan QR codes on a mobile device, you must log in to Elementum through a mobile browser. QR code scanning is not supported in the mobile app.
Scanning a QR Code
Navigate to the Record
Open the record where you want to populate data via QR code. Fields that support QR scanning display a Scan QR Code button or icon.
Open the Scanner
Click the Scan QR Code button next to the target field. This opens your device’s camera with the scanner interface.
Position the QR Code
- Hold your device steady
- Position the QR code within the scanner frame
- Ensure adequate lighting on the code
- Keep the code flat and fully visible
Tips for Successful Scanning
Good Lighting
Ensure the QR code is well-lit. Avoid shadows or glare on the code surface.
Steady Position
Hold your device steady and keep the QR code still during scanning.
Full Visibility
Position the entire QR code within the scanner frame—don’t crop edges.
Clean Codes
Use undamaged QR codes. Torn, smudged, or faded codes may not scan.
Handling Scan Errors
If the scan fails, you’ll see an error message explaining the issue.- Camera Permission Denied

Problem: The app cannot access your device camera.Solution:
- Open your device settings
- Find the app permissions
- Enable camera access for the Elementum app
- Return to the record and try scanning again
Retry or Manual Entry
When a scan fails, you have two options:- Retry - Click the scan button again to attempt another scan
- Manual entry - Type the information directly into the field

If the camera opens but doesn’t capture the code:
- Ensure the QR code is fully within the frame
- Check that the code isn’t blurry or damaged
- Try adjusting the distance between your device and the code
- Restart the scan by closing and reopening the scanner
